Canasta Questions, Answered
Is Canasta hard to learn? Not at all. Most beginners pick up the basics in under thirty minutes. The strategy depth is what keeps people playing for years. If you are new, our free beginner course walks you through every rule with examples.
How many decks do you need? Standard Canasta uses two 52-card decks plus four jokers, all included in our deluxe sets. Hand and Foot Canasta uses up to six decks, also included in our 6-deck set.
What is the difference between Canasta and Hand and Foot? Both share melding mechanics, but Hand and Foot deals each player two hands and is built for longer team play. Canasta is faster and works well for two to four players.
How do you score Canasta? Each card has a point value, melds of three or more cards score bonuses, and threes count as bonus cards, positive or negative. Our printable score sheet covers every meld value and bonus in one page.
